1. Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva
J
on “Bones” Jones, the current UFC light-heavyweight champion has said in interviews he considers UFC middleweight champion his idol, but has also said he would like to fight him one day. Looking at Jones’ performances so far in the UFC, he appears to be a younger, taller version of Silva. More than likely, the fight would take place at 205 pounds, where Jones currently reigns and Silva has fought before.
2. Georges St-Pierre vs. Anderson Silva
As the reigning welterweight champion, St-Pierre has had numerous successful title defenses, prompting pundits to wonder what would happen if he jumped up a weight class and took on current middleweight king Anderson Silva. One possibility is that the fight would take place at a catch weight, about halfway in between the two weight classes. The fight would truly be a clash of styles: Silva’s Muay Thai versus St_pierre’s take-downs.
3. Frankie Edgar vs. Gilbert Melendez
This fight, although a dream fight between arguably the world’s top two lightweights, could actually happen. Edgar sits atop the pack at the UFC champion, and now that the UFC has acquired Strikeforce, Melendez, as that promotion’s champion, could very easiy be brought under the UFC banner to challenge Edgar. Melednez probably has the edge in BJJ, but Edgar has a top-notch wrestling pedigree. Both fighters love to strike, Melendez with power strikes and Edgar with punches in bunches.
4. Jon Jones vs. Junior dos Santos
Jon Jones has been quoted as saying that one day, when his frame fills out, he’d like to test the waters at heavyweight. Waiting for him may be current heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos. Winning the title in about a minute with a KO over Cain Velasquez, dos Santos has incredibly accurate and powerful boxing. On theother hand, Jones has crazy Muay Thai and wrestling finely-tuned for MMA.
5. Nick Diaz vs. Georges St-Pierre
This welterweight battle received a lot of press, as Diaz, the Strikeforce welterweight king, was brought into the UFC fold to immediately challnege St-Pierre for his title. Then, as so often happens in MMA, an injury derailed the fight. With St-Pierre out, Diaz will now take on Carlos Condit for the interim welterweight title until St-Pierre heals.
