I had about 22 pounds I had about 4 months to do it. The questions as I bought this book were:
Could I follow this diet without being a UFC or MMA fighter?- Could I stick to this diet when times got hard?
- Would I like how Mike Dolce explained this diet and most of all would I understand it?
Mike Dolce is known in the world of Mixed Martial Arts as one of the best trainers of fighters there is. So, I knew he knew all the cutting edge tips and techniques when it came to MMA training, but what about the ”normal persons” diet? A lot of people assume that this book focuses on the extreme side of diet where you have to become a UFC fighter in order to follow this diet, but that isn’t so. I have now seen and heard great reviews from numerous normal people who have followed this diet. So, you certainly don’t have to be an MMA fighter to be successful at this diet.
My Pudgy Story
Now, I am no slouch when it comes to fitness. I have always been able to motivate myself to go workout on a daily basis, but when I turned 28 I hit a rough patch and haven’t worked out for over 4 months. This has led to me putting on extra weight and I have to confess I have gotten rather pudgy. My current diet consists of lots of Pizza’s, fast food hamburgers and fries, and KFC (I love chicken) plus desert! So, I was anxious to get started with a fitness program and the Mike Dolce diet program and get me out of this fitness rut.
One thing I love about this book is that it is a very easy read! I read it cover to cover in one day and immediately put it into action the following day. I got up in the morning (it was a weekend) and went to the grocery store to get stocked up on the right food. Most of the recommendations that Dolce makes can easily be found a any local store. This is unlike other popular diets where you have to buy the foods or supplements only through the person that wrote the book. With my cart full of healthy food choices (whole, raw, non processed) I checked out and spent about the same amount of money as I normally would have spent.
The Food & Recipes Are Outstanding
The food I made was incredible and healthy to boot! Even my family quickly fell in love with this diet because I was cooking more and they loved the food was making. One of my favorite recipes in the book are the breakfast bowls. The thing that works about this diet is that it isn’t restrictive of foods so you don’t go through the day starving and wishing you had junk food to fill you up.
Two Books For The Price Of One!
You don’t actually physically get two books. You not only get a book about diet but you get a book on fitness training as well. This book not only covers the diet but it also covers the fitness training you can do as well. Dolce gives some fantastic tips on how to make the treadmill fun while using it. I used to hate the treadmill and just watched the clock for when it was time to get off, but with Dolce’s Fighter’s Treadmill Workout it is actually fun to workout on the treadmill.
Things I Didn’t Like About This Book
- Dolce writes about numerous stories that are entertaining but could actually be taken out of the book. I would have rather read the stories with more of a how to attitude. Like tell the story then tell me what you did to solve the problem step by step!
- One full chapter is Dolce trying to sell you his other stuff. This was a waste of time and I didn’t appreciate being sold to.
- Some of the sample workout would be hard to do if you worked out at home.
Bottom Line (4 Stars)
The bottom line for this book is that the diet and fitness programs work if you follow them. I lost the 22 pounds I needed to in approximately 4 months while following this diet. However, I am not going to say that it will be as easy as other as it was for me. Until recently I had worked out daily and always been in pretty good shape. So, please don’t take my story as the end-all be-all. I would other people to comment below on their stories if they decide to follow this diet. The reason why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is the fluffy stories and the selling chapters I talked about earlier. Dolce should have totally removed those from this book and it would have been a 5 star book. Sometimes authors worry to much about page count rather then just giving the readers the content.
