1. Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva
J
on “Bones” Jones, the current UFC light-heavyweight champion has said in interviews he considers UFC middleweight champion his idol, but has also said he would like to fight him one day. Looking at Jones’ performances so far in the UFC, he appears to be a younger, taller version of Silva. More than likely, the fight would take place at 205 pounds, where Jones currently reigns and Silva has fought before. Continue Reading

Keith Jardine (17-10-2) has experienced quite the storied career. After compiling an 11-1-1 professional record, “The Dean of Mean” looked to be an extremely promising talent. After signing with the UFC following his stint on the popular Spike reality show, “The ultimate Fighter”, he rattled off numerous quality victories inside the octagon. Forrest Griffin, Chuck Liddell and Brandon Vera decorated that run.

Ben Henderson, Donald Cerrone, Dan Henderson and Nick Diaz all had amazing years. None tasted defeat, and all picked up victories over high caliber opponents. That said, there’s only one man truly worthy of the title “Fighter of the Year”: the unbelievably gifted Jon “Bones” Jones.

Many men surfaced this year as prominent figures in the mixed martial arts scene. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney’s status in the sport continues to grow as he’s slowly transforming his Bellator promotion into an organization to acknowledge, Jon Jones proved to be the year’s most amazing story, and Joe Rogan’s return to Fear Factor all but ensures more mainstream interest in the sport, having said that, it’s crucial to note that no one has made quite the impact on the sport that Dana White has in 2011.

While the masses were fortunate enough to witness the emergence of quite a few promising fighters this year, one name continues to echo in the corridors of my mind when contemplating the topic: Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. When you consider successful career reassessments, you’ve got to associate Cerrone with the subject matter. This man has taken strides to fill the holes in his game, while continuing to refine his already dangerous weapons. And, of what it has done for his career…
