Can I Learn Mixed Martial Arts Through A DVD Workout Program?

We received a question the other day from a reader that asked, “Will doing program like this MMA exercise programs here  teach me MMA?”  MMA training in my opinion is one of the best type of fitness program someone can do.  The reason is that it focuses on the body as a whole and doesn’t try to break it up into sections.  So, when you train you not only are fatiguing and working the muscles but the cardio system as well.

It all started with Bill Blanks DVD workouts series Tae Bo.  That was the commercially successful workout video series that tied the world of fitness with the martial arts.  Now you and I are not surprised when we see someone is touting the health benefits of a Mixed Martial Arts training program. Most of them are Doctors or avid doughnut shop junkies and they say this like it is a breakthrough in science and the health and fitness world. However, we have known this and understand why MMA is such a healthy lifestyle with it resulting in improved cardio, strength, and flexibility.

The MMA athletes who are training to attain the physique of their favorite MMA fighter like; George St. Pierre, Shawn “Muscle Shark” Sherk, Brock Lesnar, Anderson Silva or any other there are MMA training workouts that focus solely on developing one’s cardiovascular conditioning and strength, just like you see these MMA fighters perform in their training.  However, if you want to just look like your favorite athlete then you don’t have to train for conditioning and strength but muscle mass and trimming the fat.
