Just as fuel is indispensable to cars for motion and speed so is food to your body. Do not expect your body to perform at its peak especially for MMA if you are not eating healthy foods. It goes beyond just satisfying your hunger; unhealthy foods can accomplish that, but expect your body system to breakdown quickly if all you choose is junk food.

I had about 22 pounds I had about 4 months to do it. The questions as I bought this book were:
Could I follow this diet without being a UFC or MMA fighter?
- Could I stick to this diet when times got hard?
- Would I like how Mike Dolce explained this diet and most of all would I understand it?

Some very well known MMA fighters are vegetarians. Although this is not something for myself I do understand and respect why they choose to diet this way. However, sometimes as a fighter who has very intense MMA training sessions I believe it would be hard to recuperate properly afterwards. So, I wanted to find out more about what it takes to be a health vegetarian. What I found out was very interesting and I wanted to share it with you.

So you want to be a fighter? Chances are you probably know a little bit about the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, but one thing you might not realize is that you won’t fight at the same weight you walk around at. Yep, you heard me right. If you weigh 170 pounds then there is a good chance you won’t be fighting at the 170 pound welterweight class. More than likely you are going to be dropping down to fight opponents at 155 pounds. This practice is known as weight cutting and it is something that almost every Mixed Martial Artists does to get an edge and stay slightly a head of their opponent.

Love it or hate it cutting weight is a part of the Mixed Martial Arts game and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. When you look at this process it doesn’t make much sense and seems like a waste of time. The middleweight division in most organizations is 185 pounds so this means that you have a bunch of 205 plus pound guys cutting down to this weight class just to fight. Here is where the silly part of weight cutting for mixed martial arts comes into play. These fighters that walk around at 205 train and cut down to 185 to make weight the day before the fight, then as soon as they step off of the scale start to rehydrate so they can get their weight back up. If every fighter would just compete at their walk around weight then no one would have to go through the trouble of weight cutting. In reality everyone fights at their walk around weight anyway.

As a Mixed Martial Artist your body is like a machine. When you place the proper fuel in it and train the level that you can achieve becomes infinite. If you choose to indulge in fast foods, soda, and beer then you won’t see that top level performance in your training and in your fights. Any serious fighter who wants to make a name for him or herself understands the fine balance between proper nutrition and solid training. You can’t have one without the other and that is something a lot of up and comers need to learn if they want to make it to the top.

Training to be the best martial artist or cage fighter requires an extreme amount of dedication in all aspects of your life. You have to create a daily schedule so you can balance you technical training with your cardio and your weight lifting. As a martial artist you also have to be dedicated and create a diet regimen as well so you hit your target weight for fighting or competing and don’t lose excess muscle mass or strength.

MMA writer Cameron Conaway over at Sherdog has written an article on the power of Nitric Oxide. The main purpose of Nitric Oxide is, “is to increase levels of nitric oxide in our body, and it does this chiefly through the amino acid L-arginine, which is a nitric oxide precursor.” One question that Conaway addresses is whether the nitric oxide supplement like BSN’s popular NO Xplode actually do what it claims it does for the athletes and will it work for MMA training?
