5 Tips to Improve Your Muay Thai (Pluse Bonus Tip)

If you are someone who is just beginning in the style of Muay Thai or any MMA style fighting for that matter than you need to stay focused on the basics and not get caught up with the cool 5 tips for Muay Thaithings you see on T.V. or in the UFC.   You see, it is not only about delivering a more powerful elbow, punch, knee or kick but more about how potent those strikes are and how precisely you land them on your opponent.

Muay Thai Training Tips

Muay Thai Tip #1: Never take your eyes off your opponent. Keep in mind that distractions can last for a split second and a knockout happens much faster than that.  You must be able to  maintain focus and have your eyes on your opponent at all times.  Also, even though your eyes are looking in on spot doesn’t mean that you can’t be focusing on another in the periphery.  For instance, attempt to take a focus your gaze on your opponent head but then kick a low kick towards their lower legs. This has a tendancy to confuse beginning Muay Thai students. Keep in mind the teachings of Sun Tzu within the Art of War where deception is described as a divine art in warfare.

Muay Thai Tip #2: Never drop your guard whenever you are attacking. Even if you’re an aggressive fighter, you need to usually maintain your guard up. Usually defend your self whenever you’re attacking. Maintain in mind that the ultimate warrior is a person who by no means gives any opening to his or her opponent.

Muay Thai Tip #3: Develop a system of pattern recognition. Whether it is tensing up like you will see in Muay Thai Training Tip #5 or a quick look at the striking zone your opponent has a pattern they follow right before striking, and if you find it you will always be  one step ahead of them.

Muay Thai Tip #4: Never turn your face away whenever you are attacking. This is really a typical mistake amongst Muay Thai fighters, particularly beginners. In the event you do turn your face away, you’ll lose focus and it’ll also impact the effectiveness of your strikes even if they connect.

Muay Thai Tip #5: Do not become tense right before you strike. It is imperative that you remained relaxed until the moment of impact. This is a skill that sets apart a beginner from a more advanced Muay Thai fighter. Also, on the other side look for your opponent to become tense right before starting their strikes. If they are not good and remaining calm or at least hiding their intensity then you will be able to key in on this and move or throw your strike first.

Bonus Muay Thai Training Tip

Muay Thai Tip #6 (bonus tip): Do not use a technique or strike that you have never seen before! Even if you just saw one of your Muay Thai training instructors throw the coolest kick do not try it in your next sparring session.  You need to at least spend 30 to 45 minutes with each technique before you use it in a real or simulated fighting situation.  So, that mean stick to the basics and what you already know and you will be doing good.

These are a few of the ideas which you have to know whenever you’re inside the MMA octagon or Muay Thai training or ring. By following these ideas, you’ll quickly turn into just a beginning Muay Thai fighter to and advanced one and win several matches in the process.

    when i was starting in Muay Thai my coach woud usually remind me to raise my guard up hahaha, it becomes a habit.
    the third tip for me is the hardest, maybe because im still in the process of learning the sport, i guess i need more practice
